Hello, fellow bookworms! I don’t know about you but when I read a book, some things just stick. I love book quotes; especially unforgettable book quotes. Sometimes, when I see a quote on social media, it makes me want to read that book.
I think single line book quotes are an easy yet effective way to entice someone to read the whole book. This might be because I am a curious person(“curiouser and curiouser”<–can you name the movie from that quote?) Beyond great characters and fictional places that we wish were real, there are some books that I quote in real life just like we do with movies.
I am a walking reference for movies and books. For me, it just happens in everyday conversation. Someone says something and that thing triggers in my mind to a line from a movie or a book.
Now, I hope I’m not the only one who does this because if I am, well then just don’t tell me. Ignorance would be bliss on this occasion.
Okay, so enough ranting. I have compiled a list of quotes from books that to me are unforgettable. I only have a few listed here because I’m only referencing ones that truly are unforgettable to me.
Feel free to add to this list if you can think of some! If you love to read, then you are bound to have heard of some of these. But, if you haven’t then allow me to enlighten you to some new great books! Without further adieu, here are the best, most unforgettable book quotes that you need to know:
“As You Wish”
Three simple but extraordinary words from the book and movie of The Princess Bride. If you have never read the book or watched the movie then I am appalled and I must educate you pronto. The Princess Bride is a story for literally anyone.
It has romance, sword fights, kings, torture, friendship, hilarity, and more. This book is a childhood favorite of mine and has so many unforgettable quotes. In fact, you have probably seen some memes and gifs correlated to the movie of The Princess Bride.
I picked this quote because it is one I hope to have tattooed on my ring finger one day because of the symbolism behind the words. I could do an entire post quoting from this story and trust me, I want to. But, this post is about a great many stories so I must contain myself.
Just know that after writing this out I am definitely going to watch the movie which is equally as amazing as the book. (EDIT: I did end up watching the movie after I wrote this. Still great).
“Nothing is more deceitful, than the appearance of humility. It is often only carelessness of opinion, and sometimes an indirect boast”
This man just has a way with words. He is easily one of my all-time favorite male characters from a novel. If you don’t know this quote, then I am not surprised.
There is, however, a great chance you know the book (even if you haven’t read it) from which this quote comes from. It is from the book Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austen is a wonderful writer and author who paints Mr. Darcy in a way that makes you want to yell at him and love him at the same time.
What woman wouldn’t want a Mr. Darcy in real life? It is books like this that make me love that time period. If only time travel were real. I would definitely visit but never stay.
“Let Us Learn To Show Our Friendship For A Man When He is Alive And Not After He Is Dead”
I had the great privilege of reading this book, The Great Gatsby just months before the movie came out. This book is what I believe has made so many people aware of the 1920s. That includes me. Before reading this book I didn’t pay much attention to the 1920s.
Beyond the glamour, this book shows the gritty, more unpleasant side of that time as well. There are so many lessons to be learned, as you can see from the quote above. Friendship is a big deal and sadly, I think many of us take it for granted.
In the book, I felt quite bad for Gatsby and I was distraught by Daisy’s choice in the end. I remember being so upset and thinking “Gosh, shouldn’t there be a happy ending for him!”. Either way, the ending to the book is still great. It just wasn’t what I expected.
I’ve yet to find a book that has the same feel to it. If you have any suggestions let me know. The Great Gatsby is so original and, well, great!
“It May Have Escaped Your Notice But Life Isn’t Fair”
This couldn’t be more true. I have had enough experiences already to know that life isn’t fair. I’m okay with this though because it makes good moments even better.
I’ve learned to appreciate the good times because you really will never know how long it will last. Anyways, I couldn’t possibly list unforgettable book quotes without throwing Harry Potter in the mix now could I? This quote is said by Severus Snape.
He is probably the most relatable book character in Harry Potter aside from the magic part of it all. The book and movie series is so much fun as I’m sure you know but it also has an incredible amount of life lessons and reminders including the above quote.
“Knowing was a temptation. What you don’t know won’t tempt you”
I read this book a long time ago and one day I may give it another read. This book is from The Handmaid’s Tale. I love historical fiction novels, but a close second would be dystopian novels.
One day I think I would like to write a dystopian novel just to try it out and see where it takes. Plus, I think it would be cool to write a book that is someone’s favorite. Or, to possibly write an unforgettable book quote myself.
Dystopian novels are so dark but they produce such great stories. This book is a splendid read but I can’t think of one person that would actually want to be a part of it. I certainly wouldn’t.
Let’s Talk About It!
